About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Intern to join our dynamic team in Marlborough, MA. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across the full lipid nanoparticle (LNP) development workflow. Onsite Role for our Marlborough, MA location Internship duration: 6 months Sartorius is a global leader in the life sciences and biopharma industries, actively shaping high-growth, innovation-driven markets. As part of our commitment to pioneering future technologies, we've launched a new Corporate Research initiative focused on discovering emerging trends and rapidly converting them into next-generation solutions. As a Research Intern (Lipid Nanoparticle), you will contribute to the full product development cycle-from concept to prototype-and collaborate closely with engineers and scientists in a multidisciplinary environment.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutics, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with LNP formulation characterization techniques and biological assays used to evaluate key LNP properties
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and maintenance
  • Familiarity with laboratory automation and data acquisition
  • Experience with DOE and basic statistical analysis tools for experimental design and data interpretation

Responsibilities

  • Establish, execute, and maintain protocols for the preparation and characterization of lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations encapsulating nucleic acid cargo using automated LNP synthesis platforms.
  • Design and conduct DOE-driven formulation and process optimization studies to improve LNP quality attributes, including particle size, stability, encapsulation efficiency, and biological performance.
  • Perform in vitro assays to assess transfection efficiency and delivery of nucleic acids using formulated LNPs in mammalian cell systems.
  • Support process development activities for LNP screening, scale-up, and manufacturing-relevant workflows.
  • Assist in programming, operating, and optimizing automated liquid-handling and laboratory automation systems.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data; prepare technical summaries and present results in internal meetings and reviews.
