About The Position

As a Research & Innovation Intern with the Dallas Mavericks, you will support the Business Development Team in various initiatives designed to drive business growth and innovation. This role involves conducting market research, analyzing industry trends, working cross-collaboratively across various internal departments, and assisting in the development of strategic business proposals. You will play a crucial role in gathering and synthesizing data to support decision-making processes, while also contributing to the exploration of new business opportunities. LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: June 1 – July 31, 2026. (Duration may change because of performance and/or business needs.) Mandatory In-Person Internship Development Session. (Every Monday morning.) Must be able to work up to 29 hours per week (3-4 days/week.), which may include nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Strong ability to conduct thorough market research and analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive landscapes.
  • Proficiency in gathering, interpreting, and synthesizing large amounts of information from various sources.
  • Ability to think strategically and critically evaluate information to make data-driven recommendations.
  • Aptitude for problem-solving and generating innovative ideas to support business objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effectively conveying research findings, proposals, and insights to team members and senior leadership.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new challenges, learn new tools or processes, and stay agile in a dynamic work environment.
  • Display proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must be currently enrolled as an Undergrad in a Jr. or 4-year college with a preferred concentration in Finance, Economics, Psychology, Business Intelligence, Marketing Research, or Sports Management.
  • If applying for college credit you must be able to provide proof that credit will be earned toward your course of study (from school/registrar).

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or academic projects related to market research, business strategy, or innovation are advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a research, business development, or strategy-focused role is preferred, especially in industries such as sports, entertainment, consulting, or technology.
  • Experience conducting market research, data analysis, or competitive analysis, with a demonstrated ability to draw insights and make recommendations.
  • Experience in project management or assisting senior leadership in strategic initiatives is a plus.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams or in a collaborative setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the analysis of various viewership metrics and the evaluation of various opportunities intended to increase viewership in the coming season
  • Assisting in the compilation and analysis of historical results from market research initiatives, and the planning of future initiatives to impact overall fan engagement strategy
  • Prepare comprehensive presentations and deal sheets that effectively communicate business development opportunities to both internal and external stakeholders.
