About The Position

The Research Grant Accountant-Compliance and Sponsor Reporting at the University of Rochester plays a crucial role in supporting the Office of Research Accounting and Costing Standards (ORACS). This position involves ensuring compliance with financial regulations and managing post-award administration for sponsored research projects. The accountant will work closely with faculty and department staff to monitor financial transactions, prepare reports, and ensure adherence to contractual terms and compliance requirements. The role requires becoming a subject matter expert in the university's financial systems within the first year of employment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Accounting experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of grant and contract administration, including federal regulations and compliance requirements.
  • General accounting best practices and financial system exposure.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with campus community members.
  • Proficient in communication and computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Workday Platform and IORA (pre-award documentation system).
  • Advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with government, sponsoring agency, and University requirements for sponsored program activity.
  • Monitor financial transactions and post-award administration from project set-up to closeout.
  • Analyze financial reports and collaborate with Principal Investigators (PIs) and department personnel.
  • Assist with award budgets, budget revisions, cost transfers, and cost overruns.
  • Prepare and review financial reports for submission to sponsors.
  • Perform grant-related post-award functions including budget and expense analysis, invoicing, and financial reporting.
  • Review indirect cost calculations and journal entries for accuracy.
  • Perform grant closeout functions including reconciliations and final reporting.
  • Provide financial data analysis and recommendations to management.
  • Manage an extensive portfolio of projects for assigned departments.
