About the position

The Miller Center of Public Affairs, a nonpartisan affiliate of the University of Virginia (UVA), seeks candidates for the position of Research Fellow. The one-year position will be located within the Center's Presidential Oral History Program and will support the Program's efforts to conduct oral histories of recent presidential administrations. Established in 1975 through a generous gift from entrepreneur and philanthropist Burkett Miller, the Miller Center of Public Affairs specializes in presidential scholarship, public policy, and political history. It strives to apply the lessons of history and civil discourse to the nation's most pressing contemporary governance challenges. The Miller Center is a supportive community, grounded in diverse perspectives. Its faculty and staff value scholarly excellence, civil discourse, and respectful conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct oral history interviews with members of recent presidential administrations
  • Produce public-facing scholarship on the American presidency
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree
  • Dedication to upholding the values of the Miller Center's faculty and staff

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in U.S. political history and the history of the presidency and executive branch
  • Experience with executive oral histories
