About the position

The Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) at Florida State University is seeking a qualified candidate for a Faculty position. The role involves a variety of responsibilities centered around the analysis and simulation of power systems operations and control. The successful candidate will engage in transient time domain simulations of electrical power systems, particularly focusing on real-time simulation. Additionally, the position includes conducting Power Hardware-in-the-Loop and Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop experiments, supervising students, and writing reports to present research findings at conferences. The candidate will also support proposal development.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of power systems operations and control.
  • Perform transient time domain simulations of electrical power systems in general and real-time simulation in particular.
  • Conduct Power Hardware-in-the-Loop experiments for testing of novel power hardware.
  • Conduct Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop experiments using real-time-simulator platforms.
  • Supervising students.
  • Writing reports and presenting research results to others (including conferences).
  • Support proposal development.

Requirements

  • An academic doctorate or highest level degree in electrical engineering with a specialization in power and energy systems or a related field from an accredited institution.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least three years of experience in modeling and simulation (M&S) of power systems with a preferred emphasis on real-time modeling instantiation.
  • Experience and knowledge of Power and Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop concepts and methodologies preferred.
  • Experience with real-time simulator platforms preferred.
  • Experience with M&S tools such as PSCAD, RSCAD, and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages and/or programming languages.
