This position will design, implement, and execute ice-sheet model simulations driven by future SSP scenarios. This position will end 1 year from hire.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years’ experience, Masters degree and 2 years’ experience, or a PhD in Geosciences with experience using specialized research equipment in the field of research.
  • Extensive experience with coupling ice-sheet models and climate models.
  • Demonstrated mentorship skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with the PSU-ISM
  • Experience working with CESM data output
  • Experience with High Performance Computing (e.g. Cheyenne, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Develops, modifies, and maintains Penn State Ice Sheet Model (PSU-ISM) model code, including assessment and augmentation of existing parameterizations for surface mass balance and oceanic climate forcing. This entails establishing protocols for direct coupling between ice-sheet, climate, and ocean circulation models as needed.
  • Proposes and implements new or improved model workflows and computational approaches as required to meet project objectives.
  • Plans and coordinates PSU-ISM contributions to the Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project, including documentation and reporting of results, cataloguing and archiving data in appropriate repositories, and engaging with other ISMIP science team members to achieve project objectives.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentorship to graduate students engaged in model development.
