About The Position

This position offers a unique opportunity to bridge scientific leadership with research autonomy in an academic environment. The staff scientist will play a central role in overseeing and optimizing all mass spectrometry platforms within the lab, including method development, troubleshooting, maintenance coordination, and collaboration with internal and external researchers. In addition to instrument stewardship, the role provides flexibility to pursue independent research projects aligned with the lab’s mission, with access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and opportunities for authorship, funding applications, and mentorship. This role is especially well-suited for candidates from industry seeking to transition back into academia while maintaining a high level of technical and scientific impact. You will work closely with the laboratory manager, post-docs and graduate students in the completion of assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in scientific discipline with laboratory experience.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience with mass spectroscopy and at least one of the following: chemical proteomics, biochemistry, cell biology, synthetic chemistry, flow cytometry, molecular biology, or analytical instrumentation.
  • Ability to maintain a complete and comprehensive laboratory notebook.

Nice To Haves

  • Laboratory experience (1-10 years).
  • Experience in more than one of the required qualifications outlined above.
  • Proficiency with Excel and other Windows programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Proficiency with literature searches and science writing.
  • Experience in chemical proteomics and operation of mass spectrometers.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with routine lab management to ensure that lab is in working order.
  • Assisting the lab manager with ordering and inventory of supplies and chemicals.
  • Disposing of chemicals and maintaining any instrumentation and laboratory equipment used.
  • Participating in regular group meetings and providing updates and progress reports.
  • Performing or assisting in managing the rodent colony, including compound treatments, xenograft models, genotyping, and routine health recording.
  • Conducting experiments related to immunology, cancer, and neuroscience.
  • Performing cell isolations/culture and/or molecular biology and/or chemical synthesis.
  • Operating laboratory instruments and equipment, including mass spectrometers.
  • Using analytical techniques such as flash chromatography, NMR, and HPLC.
