About The Position

The Research Engineering/ Scientist Associate III reports to Dr. Ilias Georgakopoulos-Soares in the Division of Pharmacology and Toxicology to design and execute computational research in the areas of bioinformatics, cancer disease mechanisms, and evolutionary biology. The position is fixed term for one year, with the possibility of continuation depending upon performance, funding, and mutual agreement. Requirements

  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages including Python, R, Rust, and BASH
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools including DESeq2, FIMO, TRINITY, and other standard NGS analysis software
  • Demonstrated experience in tool development and computational pipeline standardization
  • Research background in phylogenetic analysis
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with transcription factor binding site analysis across multiple species
  • Proven track record of publications in computational biology and bioinformatics
  • Experience with database development and maintenance
  • International research experience and multilingual capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain computational pipelines for RNA-seq, miRNA-seq, and other Next-Generation Sequencing data analysis
  • Design and implement novel bioinformatics tools and databases for phylogenetic analysis and Gene Ontology enrichment
  • Perform differential expression analysis, epigenetic profiling, and evolutionary trajectory analysis
  • Read and write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, compile figures and tables
  • Present research data and findings in public and private forums (seminars/laboratory meetings)
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects involving metabolic complications and therapeutic interventions
  • Additional duties as assigned
