About The Position

The Research Engineering/Scientist Associate I provides support of foundational research developed in the Nuclear & Applied Research Group as well as from other research groups at UT Austin. This position will end 12/25/25. Extension is subject to further funding approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate administrative information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Strong listening skills and a focus on customer advocacy.
  • Extensive experience with MS Office products.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to work with project stakeholders.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience conducting research, including experience contributing to or authoring scholarly publications in archival journals, filing of patent applications, and/or having received research funding from governmental and private funding agencies.
  • Experience in CAD and 3D printing.
  • Experience with basic wiring, DC circuits, and microcontrollers.
  • Working knowledge of the application areas: nuclear, oil and gas industries, or the defense industry.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out entry-level engineering and scientific research in applied robotics for use in extreme environments, particularly in the nuclear, oil and gas industries, and/or military applications though other application areas may be considered
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering and scientific techniques used in routine research
  • Document observations and measurements to ensure conformity to project specifications
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
