Meta is seeking a Research Engineer to join the Fundamental AI Research organization (FAIR), a research organization focused on making significant progress in AI. As a Research Engineer on the Robotics team at FAIR, you will be part of an innovative group of research scientists and engineers working on cutting-edge AI technologies for robotics, and sharing this research with the world. You will play a crucial role in developing novel AI advances and deploying them onto robot platforms, and have the opportunity to drive the research in directions which improve robot performance. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of AI and robotics.

  • Collaborate with research scientists and engineers to design and implement state-of-the-art AI algorithms and models on real robot hardware and simulation environments.
  • Design and conduct thorough evaluations of AI models on real-world robotic systems, identifying limitations, and proposing improvements to enhance their performance and robustness.
  • Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners including communicating research plans, progress, and results.
  • Publish research results and contribute to research that impacts Meta product development.
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Language, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in robotics related research areas, such as: robot learning, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, action-conditioned world models, task and motion planning, sim-to-real transfer robotic control, manipulation, navigation, or generally embodied AI.
  • Experience with machine learning models, and frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as publications at leading workshops, journals or conferences in Machine Learning (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR), Robotics (ICRA, IROS, RSS, CoRL), Computer Vision (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV).
  • Proven knowledge of robotics fundamentals (perception, planning, control).
  • Experience with manipulating and analyzing complex, large scale, high-dimensionality data from varying sources.
  • Experience building systems based on machine learning and/or deep learning methods.
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
  • Experience with robotics frameworks like ROS, along with experience working with robot simulations and real-world hardware.
  • Experience designing and developing new robotic systems, platforms or infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
  • $56.25/hour to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
  • Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
  • In addition to base compensation, Meta offers benefits.
