Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Summer 2026 Intern for Research and Development (Mechanical Engineering). Must be a US Citizen. The Research and Development Intern will: support novel research approaches, evaluate technical merit of novel research develop experimental design and gather data, produce written research reports, and support the overall technical team. Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering focusing on flow diagnostics
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in MATLAB, CAD (SolidWorks)
  • Experience in technical writing, presentations
  • Must be a US Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in developing novel variations of Focused Laser Differential Interferometry (FLDI) for high-density flow imaging in aerospace applications.
  • Experience in integrating simultaneous FLDI and Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS) systems to measure local density fluctuations and absorption in hypersonic flows.
  • Experience in analyzing data with MATLAB scripts for image processing, including background subtraction, frame averaging, Gaussian blurring, and Power Spectral Density (PSD) calculations.
