About The Position

At GE Aerospace Research, we are shaping the future of flight by developing cutting-edge embedded systems technology. Our innovations drive sustainable air travel and next-generation aviation systems for both commercial and military applications. As a Research Embedded Systems Engineer, you will design and develop state-of-the-art embedded systems for real-time controls and communication applications. You will lead and contribute to advanced research and development programs for GE Aerospace and collaborate with U.S. Government Agencies. Working alongside multidisciplinary researchers, you will play a key role in projects spanning the breadth of GE Aerospace programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related disciplines with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience OR a master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related disciplines with a minimum of 3 years of industry experience OR a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or related disciplines.
  • Strong background in hardware development for FPGA devices (e.g., Xilinx, Lattice, Microsemi) or software development for embedded systems (e.g., x86, ARM).
  • Willingness to travel at least 2 weeks per year.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • US Citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with tools like Xilinx Vivado and Microchip Libero, both in user-driven and scripted modes.
  • Experience with languages such as C, Python, C#, RUST, MATLAB, ARMv8 assembly, and RISCV assembly.
  • Familiarity with embedded development in RTOS environments (e.g., VxWorks, FreeRTOS).
  • Practical experience with embedded hardware (e.g., protoboards) or networking equipment (e.g., switches, analyzers) in a lab setting.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and vendor IC datasheets.
  • Proficiency in Linux-based development environments (e.g., bash, Python, git, gcc).
  • Ability to write simple device drivers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced technologies: Work independently and collaboratively to design and apply cutting-edge software or hardware solutions for embedded controls and communication systems in GE Aerospace products.
  • Engage with suppliers: Interact with software and hardware vendors, as well as engineering tool providers, to identify optimal solutions for complex applications.
  • Document innovations: Protect intellectual property and share results through patent applications, technical reports, and publications.
  • Stay ahead of the curve: Continuously expand your expertise by staying current with advancements in embedded software and hardware technologies to explore new ideas and applications.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work in a team environment with colleagues from GE Aerospace and government agencies to drive impactful results.
