About The Position

The Paper making and Structural Mechanics R&D group at Smurfit Westrock in Richmond, VA is offering internship and co-op opportunities for engineering students. Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, material science, or paper science & engineering.
• Scientific knowledge and hands-on skills in engineering.
• Ability to analyze and report results effectively.
• Coursework and experience in physical testing, mechanical drafting, presentation, and report writing.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of innovative evaluation methods for paper making, paperboard mechanics, and package performance.
• Conduct literature reviews and report results through written and oral presentations.
• Engage in 3D modeling and printing, numerical analysis, and test method development.
• Assist in pilot equipment design and fabrication, as well as experiment planning and trials.
