About The Position

This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento. This team member serves as a researcher on traffic safety and operations studies involving driver licensing and vehicle registration. Using software applications such as SAS SPSS, Python, and SQL, prepares and analyzes data in desktop, cloud, and legacy mainframe environments. Responds to inquiries from internal and external entities on matters regarding crash risk, convictions, demographics, traffic safety laws and data systems, interventions, and operations. Prepares reports of project findings for publication as monographs and scientific journal articles. Writes issue papers, legislative analyses, and other technical correspondence. Presents findings before executive leadership, department staff, and external groups. Acts as a technical consultant for other department staff. Represents DMV on state workgroups/committees and at professional conferences. Develops subject matter knowledge in various areas of departmental operations and traffic safety. Develops and submit new proposals, including as grant-funded projects. May be assigned in the near term to assist on a high-profile study of cannabis-impaired driving, currently being conducted in collaboration with the California Highway Patrol and the University of California at San Diego. This latter assignment may involve working a certain amount of time on-site, during swing-shift type hours (late afternoon and evening), at the California Highway Patrol Academy in West Sacramento. The Salary Range shown is the minimum and maximum for a full-time appointment. Moving and relocation expenses will not be reimbursed for this position.
