About The Position

This position requires working with a dynamic and interdisciplinary group of scientists across multiple organizations as part of a large NIH-funded contract. Your primary responsibility is to support FAIR data management and sharing within the consortium, and with the public domain. The consortium is heavily focused on host-pathogen interaction, and the majority of the data generated relates to immunology-based assays. This position requires an ability to develop data management tools for specialized data entry for immunology, clinical and, -omics based assays. The position requires skills in data science, and computer science, particularly as they apply to the management of complex biological and clinical research data. The ideal candidate is a strong proponent of Open Science and has a good understanding of experimental design in the life sciences and high-throughput OMICs to ensure that the data and relevant metadata is appropriately captured to maximize data reuse. The role requires clear and consistent communication and co-ordination with consortium scientists to (1) identify data for inclusion in the consortium's repository, and (2) assist with data preparation and upload.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of standard principles, theories and concepts related to immunology research.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills; able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Understanding of FAIR data sharing principles and experience implementing strategies to improve data sharing in alignment with FAIR principles.
  • Experience tracking and sharing experimental metadata.
  • Proficient planning skills, able to manage multiple projects with competing priorities/deadlines, and to work in parallel with different teams to move multiple projects forward simultaneously.
  • Able to establish and maintain professional working relationships with scientists.
  • Able to occasionally work outside standard business hours in order to liaise with international consortium members.
  • Able to work on projects and other assignments with limited direct supervision.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to learn new analytic skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or comparable area of research.
  • At least two (2) years of experience participating in data science and analytics related projects or research.
  • Relevant programming and data management experience, including experience with data manipulation and visualization techniques (R, SQL).

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in the field of Biomedical/Health Informatics, including extensive familiarity with biological data, molecular biological databases, and clinical databases.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications and tools, including in-depth technical and/or applications knowledge in assigned platforms.
  • Relevant programming and data management experience, including experience with R, SQL, and Python.
  • Experience interacting with biological data repositories (SRA, SEEK, GEO, Pride, IMMPORT, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Manage consortium's data repository: Work with stakeholders to design, implement, modify and maintain a data repository used for internal data sharing within the program.
  • Manage consortium's data repository: In collaboration with scientists, adapt and develop data entry templates for different experimental platforms and metadata.
  • Manage consortium's data repository: Work closely with scientists and PIs to identify and release data that needs to be shared publicly in accordance with NIH Data Sharing policy.
  • Manage consortium's data repository: Liase with larger consortia data repository scientists to facilitate data sharing between consortia.
  • Maintain an up-to date data repository: Actively solicit new data entries and regularly update the repository.
  • Maintain an up-to date data repository: Work closely with scientists to identify the appropriate metadata required for individual experiments.
  • Maintain an up-to date data repository: Co-ordinate directly with consortium scientists to support ongoing data entries, including providing basic training, performing quality control, and investigating problematic data entries.
  • Participate in project management efforts: Develop work plans, identify resource requirements, and develop work schedules.
  • Participate in project management efforts: Provide detailed quarterly reports of data sharing projects, ensuring information is presented in appropriate language for clear communication to team members.
  • Participate in project management efforts: Communicate projects' schedules and track project progress and success.
  • Participate in project management efforts: Recommend and create documentation for best practices for data sharing.
  • Participate in project management efforts: Solicit and provide feedback of implementation of data sharing projects to improve processes.
  • Participate in project management efforts: Demonstrate initiative and innovation by proactively identifying opportunities for improved efficiency and project success and make recommendations to investigators and team members.
  • Participate in project management efforts: Adapt data sharing implementation and reporting practices to align with NIH data sharing policy updates.
