About The Position

The Research Data Management Specialist at NYU plays a crucial role in supporting the university's commitment to balancing open science with the protection of research data assets. This position focuses on comprehensive data lifecycle management, data security, and compliance, working closely with the research community and various university units to ensure proper management of research data in accordance with university policies and regulatory requirements. The specialist is integral to NYU's Research Security Program, providing administrative support for data use agreements, developing and auditing research data management plans, and offering outreach and training to enhance data security awareness within the NYU research community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience as a research administrator or researcher, particularly with research data.
  • Experience with research or data contracts, contract negotiation, and/or a background in a regulatory or compliance environment.
  • Excellent judgment and time management skills; service-oriented and flexible self-starter.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking, writing, and communication skills.
  • Extensive computer knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, Data Science, Library and Information Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting specialized research compliance systems and data lifecycle management within an academic research environment.
  • Experience with data security, compliance, and regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, GDPR, and NIST 800-171/53.

Responsibilities

  • Support comprehensive data lifecycle management and data security efforts.
  • Coordinate with various university units to ensure proper identification, categorization, and classification of research data.
  • Review data use agreements and develop research data management and security plans.
  • Audit research data management and security plans for both funded and unfunded research.
  • Provide outreach and training to enhance data security awareness throughout the NYU research community.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of USD $81,000.00 to USD $99,000.00 based on experience and qualifications.
  • Hybrid remote work classification, allowing for remote work more than 60% of the time.
