About The Position

The University of Tennessee is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to serve as a Research Coordinator II within the Center for Renewable Carbon and assist in a new Circular Bioeconomy Systems Convergent Research Initiative. The successful candidate will oversee laboratory daily operations, ensuring functions are performed safely and effectively while supporting research and general operations in a safe and collaborative environment.

Requirements

Associate degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Biology, Engineering or a related field.
At least one year’s experience working in a research lab or similar experience.
Strong knowledge of laboratory safety practices, hazardous materials handling, basic scientific principles, repair and maintenance of equipment, handling gases, understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics systems, and understanding of electrical circuits are essential.
Excellent organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Time management and project coordination expertise

Nice To Haves

Candidates with a strong background in chemical safety and hazardous substances are highly desirable.
Prior experience working in a university research setting is advantageous.

Responsibilities

Oversee laboratory daily operations
Building management
Equipment maintenance
Managing inventories
Acting as a safety manager ensuring that hazardous materials and equipment are handled with the correct care and consideration
Managing safety data sheets (SDS)
Maintaining chemical inventories and waste streams
Training individuals on safe procedures
Ensuring compliance of the students and staff within the lab
Regular inspections of the laboratory and satellite labs
Development of SOPs
Troubleshooting safety- or performance-related issues as they arise
