About The Position

The FamilySearch Library’s VIP Hosting and Research Services team is seeking an experienced and credentialed genealogical research specialist to support high-level research initiatives and provide expert guidance to VIP guests. This role requires deep expertise in international records, including language proficiency, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to service excellence. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in family history, local history, languages, archival sciences, or a related field with 7–10 years of professional experience; or a master’s degree with 5–7 years of experience; or a credentialed Certified Genealogist® or Accredited Genealogist® plus 10+ years of experience in genealogical research or library settings.
  • Extensive International genealogical research expertise with the ability to perform U.S. genealogical research.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate evidence, develop research plans, and produce well-documented genealogical reports.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting handwritten historical records in foreign language.
  • Solid computer literacy, including proficiency in typing, email communication, internet research, video conferencing, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Familiarity with FamilySearch.org tools and resources, including Historical Records, Images, Family Tree, Memories, Catalog, and Wiki.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in public speaking, teaching, and engaging diverse audiences in both formal and informal settings.
  • Professional, personable, and confident in engaging VIP guests, delivering outstanding service and communication.
  • Calm and focused under pressure, with the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Host VIP guests, media representatives, genealogical societies, and other organizations, ensuring a welcoming and informative experience.
  • Develop and deliver customized PowerPoint presentations tailored to the interests and backgrounds of VIP guests.
  • Conduct genealogical research across onsite, online, and offsite platforms to support guest experiences and special projects.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports, pedigrees, and family history portfolios for VIP guests.
  • Facilitate personalized family history discovery sessions, providing one-on-one guidance and support.
  • Educate guests on the use of FamilySearch.org tools and resources, including Family Tree, Memories, Historical Records, Images, Books, Catalog, Wiki, and mobile applications.
  • Collaborate with Church leadership, Church Hosting representatives, Family History Department leaders, and community partners to coordinate and fulfill VIP hosting requests.
  • Support special research project initiatives commissioned by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
  • Maintain and expand domain expertise by engaging in ongoing professional development, including attending workshops, conferences, and training sessions, reviewing scholarly publications, and managing library resources.
  • Support library operations through staffing, consultations, special projects, and training initiatives.
  • Provide friendly, timely, and accurate genealogical research assistance to the public.
  • Respond to genealogy-related inquiries both in person and through online platforms.
  • Develop training materials and resources for internal staff and external library guests.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise to the development and enhancement of FamilySearch products and services.
  • Create written content on genealogical records, research methodologies, and best practices for audiences ranging from beginner to advanced.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with members of the broader genealogical community.
