The managing editor ensures manuscripts move efficiently from submission to publication while meeting publication standards for research purposes. They manage the peer review process, conduct initial manuscript screenings, coordinate with editors to meet deadlines for regular and special issues as it pertains to research publications. The role includes coordinating between authors, reviewers, editors, and production teams. In addition, the managing editor prepares a monthly report detailing submission volume, review timelines, and production status to track manuscripts progress. At the end of each year, they present a formal performance report to the board, communicating key metrics and progress toward the journal’s strategic goals. Manages the organization's interactions with the media and news outlets with a focus on university research and researchers. May secure media placements, and provides news and information for the general public and key audiences as it relates to university research. May develop news content (text, images, social posts, etc.) to support university research.
