About The Position

This position is located in the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC), Environmental and Fisheries Sciences (EFS Division), Resource Enhancement, with one vacancy in Manchester, WA. As a Research Biologist (Aquaculture), you will perform duties such as designing and leading experimental research studies in applied Aquatic Animal Health and Physiology to support environmentally and economically sustainable aquaculture development. You will also conduct in vivo experimental trials, publish research papers in high impact peer-reviewed scientific journals, and assist with leading international and interagency research partnerships.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
  • Selectee may be subject to serving a three-year probationary period.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • Selectee must provide a valid state driver's license & safe driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a government vehicle.
  • This position may require regular travel to research sites and/or the performance of duties onboard a vessel.
  • The incumbent will be periodically required to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines.
  • Experience in aquatic animal health, disease, or physiology research.
  • Experience in fish culture or field-scale aquaculture research studies.
  • Experience in writing scientific publications based on experimental findings.
  • Experience in collecting samples, analyzing and interpreting data using appropriate statistical methods.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead experimental research studies in applied Aquatic Animal Health and Physiology.
  • Design and conduct in vivo experimental trials.
  • Conduct sampling of research animals in controlled laboratory experiments and field-scale trials.
  • Publish research papers in high impact peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Prepare reports for technical and general audiences on a variety of research topics.
  • Assist with leading international and interagency research partnerships.
