About The Position

A Research Associate is sought to perform research related to engineering of microbial communities for biomanufacturing and biotechnology in the Techtmann Lab in the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Bioengineering. The Techtmann lab is focused using microbial consortia for biotechnology and biomanufacturing. This Research Associate will lead research related to engineering of microbiomes for improved phytomining as well as characterization of microbial communities from extreme environments. Duties for this position include characterization of microorganisms and microbial communities, molecular characterization of microorganisms using genome sequencing, analysis of physiology and metabolism of microorganisms and microbial communities, as well as lab organization and management. This Research Associate will contribute to research and reporting for multiple projects in the Techtmann lab.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree Bioengineering, Microbiology, or related field or equivalent experience and 1 year of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering, Microbiology, or related field or equivalent experience with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with growth and characterization of microorganisms and the use aseptic technique.
  • Experience in leading projects
  • strong communication and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with at least one of the following programming languages R, Python, or Matla
  • strong communication and organizational skills
  • experience in molecular biology
  • previous experience with field work
