About The Position

The Particle Physics Directorate at Fermilab is seeking outstanding candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position within its Muon Division. This role involves constructing, commissioning, and operating advanced experimental instrumentation, as well as performing data reconstruction and analysis. The position is based at the Fermilab site in Illinois. The Muon Division is home to the Mu2e Experiment, which is dedicated to the search for Charged Lepton Flavor Violation. The successful candidate will take a leading role in the commissioning of this experiment, with a specific focus on data derived from Fermilab’s key detector systems: the beam extinction monitor and the straw tracker. Following commissioning, the Research Associate will be a primary contributor to the analysis of the collected data.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in particle physics, nuclear physics, or another relevant subject by the time of the appointment.
  • Experience in analysis, experimental instrumentation, and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, commission, and operate state-of-the-art experimental instrumentation.
  • Perform data reconstruction and analysis.
  • Play a leading role in commissioning the Mu2e experiment, focusing on data from the beam extinction monitor and the straw tracker.
  • Play a leading role in analyzing the data collected.
  • Solve problems that require creative solutions using available resources.
  • Construct, integrate, and operate state-of-the-art instrumentation collaboratively with an international team of scientists, engineers, and technicians, including students at all levels.
  • Participate in the research and development of scientific instrumentation for upcoming experiments.
  • Abide by and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
