The Department of Biology at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a research technician position in the laboratory of Dr. Maria de la Paz Fernandez. Lab website: https://fernandez.lab.indiana.edu/index.html This position is initially for two years, with the possibility of extension based on performance and interest. The lab studies the neuronal basis of behavior.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute Drosophila genetic crosses to support the lab’s research program.
• Perform and analyze experiments related to the neuroanatomy of clock neurons and sleep/wake cycles in Drosophila .
• Manage a collection of Drosophila genetic strains and maintain the associated database.
• Meet weekly with the primary investigator to set experimental goals and review results.
• Attend and occasionally give weekly lab meetings with lab members to discuss lab research and relevant papers.
• Supervise and train new undergraduate students in the lab.
• Oversee general lab maintenance, including placing orders and managing inventory.
