About The Position

This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through 5/1/2027, contingent on funding availability for continuation. The work location is the Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This opportunity is for highly motivated, independent, and innovative individuals to integrate aquatic invertebrate biology with open technologies within a highly interdisciplinary environment.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Natural Resource Ecology and Management, or a related field
  • Experience in aquatic invertebrate husbandry and specimen handling
  • Experience with reproductive biology techniques or cryopreservation concepts
  • Demonstrated project management or leadership experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with additive manufacturing (e.g., 3D printing, CAD)
  • Familiarity with open-source hardware development
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary or industry-collaborative environments
  • Experience with liquid nitrogen handling and cryogenic systems

Responsibilities

  • Independent research and process development for germplasm cryopreservation, reproductive physiology of aquatic invertebrates
  • Collaboration with engineers and designers to produce hardware devices for germplasm preservation
  • Close coordination for repository development with national stock centers and groups that provide aquatic invertebrates research
  • Development of manuscripts and presentations to disseminate information
  • Animal husbandry of aquatic invertebrates
  • Coordination of outreach efforts for community development
