Leidos Health and Civil is seeking a Research Associate in Physiology to join our team onboard the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory (NSMRL) in Groton, CT to work with the Undersea Physiology & Performance Enhancement Research (UPPER) team. The UPPER team works to understand and improve the relationship between novel technologies and their human users. As a Research Associate, you will assist in conducting data collections, organizing data for analysis and development efforts, and provide administrative support. The position involves interaction with the Principal Investigator (PI) in all aspects of experimental planning, data collection, and analysis, both for human and non-human subjects. You will also prepare literature reviews, research protocols, and technical reports, and ensure consistent communication with team personnel.

  • Interact with and assist Principal Investigator (PI) at the NSMRL in all aspects of non-human subject experimental planning, data collection, and data analysis.
  • Interact with and assist Principal Investigator (PI) at the NSMRL in all aspects of human subject experimental planning, data collection, and data analysis.
  • Independently assist Principal Investigator (PI) with the preparation of literature reviews, research protocols, analyses, briefing packages, purchase requests, technical reports and publications.
  • Apply precise experimental methods to acquire human-subjects' and non-human subjects data.
  • Prepare necessary support documentation through detailed standard operating procedures, technical memorandums and staff training.
  • Prepare, review, and disseminate various internal or external communications, subject to government approval.
  • Provide planning and research support to various projects or studies as directed.
  • Ensure consistent communication with team personnel and other contacts in order to keep abreast of developments in areas of interest identified by the Government PI.
  • Assist Government PI with preparing and/or editing technical or periodic reports, records, documents, and correspondence.
  • Coordinate activities and schedules of the extended research team.
  • Perform various other tasks assigned toward project completion.
  • Travel to support projects both in and outside of the United States.
  • Assist UPPER team with data collections, data organization, and administrative support.
  • Execute setup, testing, and troubleshooting of experimental equipment.
  • Adhere to and implement scientific review board and institutional board review procedures.
  • Candidates must have completed at least a Master's degree with applicable experience.
  • Knowledge of workflows for cell culture and relevant process optimization and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in performing and optimizing biological assays.
  • Demonstrate the ability to extend and apply the knowledge of research to the missions of the NSMRL Command and the Navy.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors.
  • Ability to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level.
  • Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Work is to be primarily performed on a government installation. The normal work week is Monday through Friday 0800 to 1630.
  • Some offsite travel (~10%) may be required for data collection efforts, presentations, etc.
  • Experience in a human subject research setting.
  • Experience writing scientific articles and technical reports.
  • Desire to seek a career supporting military health sciences.
  • Experience working with the US federal government.
