POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) or designee, the Research Associate provides operational support to the laboratory. The Research Associate will perform research experiments as defined by the PI. This is an open-rank posting (there are 4 levels of Research Associate) - candidates will be hired into the level commensurate with their experience. The Aroian Group at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts seeks an enthusiastic and motivated Research Associate to join us in developing new cures for intestinal nematode parasites to advance global and animal health. Our laboratory is a world leader in studying and discovering new treatments for hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm parasites. These parasites are major causes of poverty and disease worldwide, infecting hundreds of millions of children. We are passionate about improving lives through impactful science. These parasites also severely affect many animals, including dogs, horses, cattle, sheep, and poultry, and new cures are urgently needed. The lab environment is science-driven, friendly, supportive, collaborative, and productive. This research will focus on using Bacillus thuringiensis crystal proteins from nature to treat parasitic infections. We are looking for dynamic individuals with a strong work ethic and desire to learn who want to help make the world healthier. Experience with molecular biology, protein biochemistry, microbiology, or related techniques is desirable but not required; training will be provided.
