The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to do computational work in condensed matter physics and materials science. The successful candidate will conduct theoretical modeling and numerical simulations in the areas of quantum and frustrated magnetism, with a particular emphasis on quantum spin liquids. The position also involves close collaboration with local experimental groups to interpret and understand experimental findings. Proficiency in advanced many-body techniques-such as the density-matrix renormalization group, tensor-network states, or variational quantum Monte Carlo-is required. Demonstrated experience with these methods will be highly favored. This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for one additional one-year term, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
