About The Position

The Research Associate III position at the University of Massachusetts Medical School involves conducting a variety of independent research experiments under the guidance of a Principal Investigator (PI). This role includes operational management of the laboratory and its personnel, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and contributing to the overall research objectives of the lab.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological or Natural Science and 3+ years of relevant research experience, or a related Master's degree with 1 year of relevant research experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to analyze complex visual data quantitatively and objectively.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex laboratory experiments and manage independent research projects.
  • Utilize relevant software for experiments and equipment.
  • Interpret data, draw conclusions, and decide on next steps with independence.
  • Maintain accurate records and modify protocols with PI approval.
  • Review literature, publications, and grants related to projects.
  • Record results according to established protocols.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis and mathematical computations.
  • Maintain a detailed lab notebook according to lab practices.
  • Compile and analyze data for publication according to PI specifications.
  • Present findings at lab/group meetings and other forums.
  • Oversee laboratory supply levels and negotiate with suppliers.
  • Monitor laboratory equipment service contracts and maintenance.
  • Prepare and label buffers, media, and solutions.
  • Assist with compliance to safety regulations and infection control standards.
  • Train on IACUC, IRB, EHS, and Radiation safety protocols.
  • Manage general operations of the laboratory, including personnel and projects.
  • Identify problems, propose resolutions, and implement solutions.
  • Create or modify protocols as necessary with PI approval.
  • Prioritize and perform multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Train new lab personnel.
  • Monitor laboratory spending in accordance with budget guidelines.
  • Assist with budget and operational aspects of grant funding.
  • Assist with drafting manuscript sections.
