THE OPPORTUNITY Vir Biotechnology is looking for a highly self-motivated and collaborative Research Associate II to support solution preparation, production, and process development. The Downstream Process Development team develops and implements downstream processing methodologies across all modalities that can be easily transferred to our CDMO partners. Your primary focus is to participate in preparing buffers and media for production runs and process development experiments, execution of lab scale experiments to assess new molecules and platform fit, development of phase appropriate purification processes, execute pilot scale purification batches, and share results to a cross-functional team. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to support tech transfer of production processes developed in our labs. This role is based in our San Francisco California office with the expectations to be onsite 4 days a week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, biochemistry, or chemical engineering with 3+ years of biopharmaceutical bioprocess R&D or manufacturing experience.
  • Laboratory experience with FPLCs and HPLCs
  • Detail oriented with the ability to work independently and manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Work under moderate supervision to carry out solution preparation, small-scale protein production workflows, and process development experiments
  • May train other research associates on specific techniques
  • Execute lab scale screening, chromatography, and filtration experiments.
  • Perform pilot scale purifications in collaboration with project leads
  • Perform preparation of buffers, media, and other solutions to support operations
  • Contribute to routine maintenance of lab equipment
  • Potential to be cross trained for hands-on upstream, downstream, and analytical development experience.
  • Summarize work plan, status, and results and provide oral and written updates to manager and internal project stakeholders as needed.
  • Document all work and data in an electronic laboratory notebook
  • Work with Environmental Health and Safety and Quality to ensure lab work is performed in safe and compliant manner.
