About The Position

Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at City of Hope where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting-edge research. The Research Associate II will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator to help establish and operate a basic science/translational research laboratory focused on cutaneous lymphoma biology at City of Hope. This individual will perform molecular biology experiments, manage laboratory workflows, maintain supplies/equipment, and help generate high-quality datasets for downstream analyses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two years related research/ laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s degree or one year related research/ laboratory experience with a Master’s degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with core molecular biology techniques.
  • Prior experience with sequencing library preparation, PCR optimization, or advanced molecular techniques.
  • Experience in dermatology, immunology, cancer biology, or related research.
  • Familiarity with R, Python, or Linux in a bioinformatics context.

Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and nucleic acid quantification.
  • Conduct next-generation sequencing library preparation (DNA, RNA, or targeted panels) following established protocols.
  • Assist with sample preparation for single-cell sequencing, proteomic assays, or spatial profiling as the lab develops.
  • Process patient-derived biospecimens (blood, tissue, PBMCs, skin biopsies) following IRB and biosafety protocols.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, including thermal cyclers, centrifuges, biosafety hoods, sequencers, microscopes, and flow cytometers.
  • Prepare solutions, reagents, buffers, stains, and media according to standard laboratory formulas.
  • Track inventory levels, order supplies, and ensure an efficiently functioning laboratory environment.
  • Assist in planning experiments, optimizing protocols, and interpreting results in collaboration with the PI.
  • Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks, sample logs, and project documentation.
  • Perform basic computational analysis (e.g., qPCR data analysis, gel quantification, flow cytometry gating) with opportunities to advance in bioinformatics.
  • Interface with the clinical team to coordinate transfer and tracking of patient samples from the cutaneous lymphoma cohort.
  • Ensure chain-of-custody documentation for samples entering the laboratory.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary translational research meetings.
