If so, you could be the Research Associate we’ve been looking for to execute formulation experiments for a variety of microbes, including bacteria, fungi, and yeast. Welcome to Development and Optimization of Microbes We are part of a global organization in Novonesis that is responsible for the development, scale-up, and optimization of microbe products, processes, and technologies based on scientific insight and customer needs. Our expertise spans bioenergy, agriculture, human health, and functional foods, and we collaborate with colleagues around the world to leverage shared knowledge in industrial microbiology. Our team is composed of scientists and researchers with diverse backgrounds who use a wide array of lab-, pilot-, and production-scale equipment, along with advanced data and digital tools, to develop and launch new products. In this role you’ll make an impact by: Working within an agile team to execute formulation experiments and analyze data, delivering clear and concise summaries to project teams and key stakeholders. Learning and operating a range of microbiological, automation, and analytical lab equipment, including liquid handling robots, incubators, drying systems, wet mills, size analyzers, environmental chambers, and microscopes. Bringing your passion and excitement for hands-on experimental work. Performing job duties in a safe, clean, and organized manner with work well-documented in electronic lab notebooks (ELNs). Showing an interest in learning new skills, including microbiological and analytical methods, as part of your individual development. Following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and learning equipment-specific software. Helping to maintain laboratory equipment in good working order, performing routine checks and basic troubleshooting of common issues. Using digital tools and basic statistical software to support experimental planning and data analysis. Identifying issues or inefficiencies you encounter in daily work, proposing practical improvements to methods or workflows, and collaborating with teammates to implement them. Being proactive, taking ownership of your tasks, and viewing challenges as opportunities to learn and contribute.

Requirements

  • A BS degree in Chemical or Bioprocess Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Experience with aseptic technique and biosafety cabinets.
  • Experience with assay execution and basic troubleshooting, and an interest in contributing to method optimization.
  • The ability to learn new digital applications, data analysis tools, and scripting basics as needed.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, sharing results, issues, and suggestions clearly.
  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
