About The Position

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is seeking a Research Associate to coordinate, and/or manage various elements of multiple and/or complex research projects. These research projects include studies of diseases of pulmonary and critical care medicine with the goal of improving patient outcomes. The primary location for this position is on the main campus of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) Critical Care/MICU and may include West Chester Hospital (WCH) ICU.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Sciences or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage clinical research projects studying sepsis, acute respiratory failure, pneumonia and related conditions
  • Ensure compliance with research protocols and adhere to Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (GCP) as defined by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), as well as all federal, state, and local laws related to the conduct of research activities.
  • Conduct and coordinate study activities including patient screening, enrollment, and education.
  • Process human and murine samples from clinical and basic science studies.
  • Run assays to measure analytes (e.g., ELISAs) from in vivo and in vitro studies.
  • In conjunction with the investigator, document and evaluate adverse events and patients'/research subjects' response to treatment.
  • Implement GCP to ensure patient safety, data integrity, and compliance with protocol and regulatory agencies (IRB, FDA, etc.).
  • Collaborate and communicate with care coordinators, social workers, physicians, and other appropriate treatment team members.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator and Clinical Research Director and Manager with preparation and implementation of Quality Assurance projects and internal audits.
  • Effectively manage study data throughout the research projects (obtain and record original data, extract, or retrieve from electronic or physical source, manual data entry; upload data files; conduct data verification and query resolution; data analysis, etc.).
