The Research Associate, Center for Discovery and Innovation- CDI will be responsible for the conduct of highly specialized and technical research. This role will play a critical role in conducting research projects for the assigned lab. The Center for Discovery and Innovation- CDI was established by Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic and to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases. The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 39 labs, 200+ scientists and allied personnel supported by 78 NIH and DoD grants and more than 87 other grants and contracts. Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, rheumatology and pharmacology.

  • Conducts research and/or laboratory specific tasks and experiments under direct supervision.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data.
  • Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions.
  • Presents findings to higher level staff.
  • Reviews experimental protocols, design, and documentation.
  • Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Participates in design and performance of research projects.
  • Mentors students or research assistants.
  • Publishes results in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs general laboratory functions including but not limited to equipment maintenance and restocking.
  • Presents results in internal and external research forums.
  • Writes manuscript and grants, as appropriate.
  • Seeks funding from NIH or Foundation sources, as appropriate.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Hold a M.D. or PhD Degree in a relevant science with a minimum of two years as a Postdoctoral research fellow, or a Master's Degree in a relevant science with a minimum of three years of related research experience.
  • Minimum publication or in preparation of two articles as first author in high quality peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Experience conducting and designing research projects.
  • Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter.
  • Demonstrated involvement in research program development, performance improvement, and research activities.
  • Lab specific technical skills.
  • Strong organization skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
  • Experience working in a BSL2/BSL3 lab facility.
