About The Position

The Research Associate position at NYU Grossman School of Medicine involves conducting independent basic science experimentation focused on physiological and environmental factors that regulate mammalian stem cells. The role includes generating and testing hypotheses, designing experimental methodologies, and analyzing results, all under the mentorship of a senior scientist. The successful candidate will contribute to projects in gastrointestinal biology and maternal-fetal medicine, and will have opportunities to develop core competencies and build a portfolio of research accomplishments.

Requirements

  • College graduate with a BS or BA in Biomedical or Physical Sciences.
  • A minimum commitment of two years is required and placement in position may not exceed three years.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior research experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Prior training on basic laboratory skills such as pipetting technique.
  • Prior exposure to animal research including in an educational setting.
  • Advanced computer processing skills such as prior experience with graphing software, Adobe Suite, and/or other software relevant to biological research.
  • Highly organized; proficient at note/record keeping and organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism.
  • Great team player with the ability to work alone and with others.
  • Ability to adapt as the lab grows and changes and responsibilities evolve.
  • Basic computer processing knowledge including file management and use of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent software.

Responsibilities

  • Train graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in experimental design technique and performance after a period of time working in the laboratory.
  • Generate hypotheses and design experiments to test them.
  • Execute multiple experiments simultaneously over time independently.
  • Record all experimental findings in a laboratory notebook and analyze and interpret experimental findings.
  • Suggest and test modifications to protocols based on results independently.
  • Prepare figures and diagrams for presentations and publications.
  • Communicate results and collaborate with other professionals in the lab.
  • Demonstrate a significant level of intellectual input into the design of the project.
  • Present findings at lab meetings, respond to challenges, and participate in exchanges of ideas to advance the science.
  • Read and understand relevant scientific literature.
  • Contribute to the preparation of articles on research outcomes and progress and to the submission of same for publication.
  • Participate in the editing and proofing of grant proposals, annual grant reports, and manuscripts for publication, and recommend modifications to the Principal Investigator.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $44,371.60 - $49,819.00 Annually based on experience and qualifications.
