About The Position

The Research Associate in Agricultural Science at Tennessee State University is responsible for assisting the statewide Extension Irrigation Specialist in conducting and maintaining research studies at various locations across Tennessee. This full-time position requires a strong background in agricultural science, field experience, and the ability to work collaboratively with students and farmers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Applied or Agricultural Sciences.
• At least one year of field experience in Agricultural Science or a related field.
• Experience working in an outdoor agricultural environment.
• Valid U.S. driver's license with at least two years of driving experience.
• Experience with field sensors, data analysis, and plotting, or willingness to learn quickly.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot scientific instruments and field equipment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar software for data collection and management.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in Agricultural Sciences or a closely related field.
• Experience working with irrigation systems.
• Expertise in field preparation, planting, harvesting, and pesticide application using agricultural equipment.
• Knowledge of digital technologies (computers, electronics, sensing, and data logging), or a strong motivation to learn and work with them.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Extension Irrigation Specialist in conducting research studies.
• Maintain research studies at TSU's campus and other locations in Tennessee.
• Prepare fields for planting, harvesting, and pesticide application using agricultural equipment.
• Work with irrigation systems and perform hands-on tasks as required.
• Collaborate effectively with students and farmers on research projects.
