About The Position

The Department of Ophthalmology is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 3 to work on site in Miami. The Research Associate 3, SOM assumes responsibility for the design and performance of research focused on the development of novel experimental therapies for human malignancies. The incumbent contributes to collaborations with scientists within the University of Miami or elsewhere. Moreover, this individual works as part of a team and assists with the maintenance of laboratory equipment, protocols, and supplies.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Maintains daily operations and performs procedures related to new and on-going research projects.
  • Assists with ordering, purchasing, and maintenance of all required reagents and supplies for laboratory activities, and monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and stocks.
  • Assists with the maintenance of institutional biosafety and animal care protocols, laboratory safety records, and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs and assists other research staff with standard laboratory techniques.
  • Develops, adapts, and implements new laboratory procedures.
  • Records, organizes, and writes up experimental results for submission of manuscripts and for scientific presentations.
  • Keeps abreast of latest literature in the field and searches for references to technical problems.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the methods and techniques related to the specific field of research.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Lead and support large-scale clinical database research projects using national and international datasets (e.g., registry data, electronic health records, claims databases, and other real-world data sources).
  • Perform advanced statistical analyses, including multivariable regression modeling, survival analysis, propensity score methods (matching, weighting, stratification), longitudinal data analysis, hierarchical modeling, and causal inference techniques.
  • Develop, validate, and implement reproducible analytic pipelines for big data research using statistical software such as R, SAS, Stata, or Python.
  • Conduct data extraction, cleaning, harmonization, and quality control of large structured and semi-structured datasets.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and multidisciplinary teams to refine study design, define variables, construct analytic cohorts, and ensure methodological rigor.
  • Apply advanced methods for bias reduction, confounding control, missing data handling (e.g., multiple imputation), and sensitivity analyses.
  • Assist in power calculations, sample size estimation, and protocol development for observational and outcomes-based research studies.
  • Generate publication-ready tables, figures, and supplementary materials for manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations.
  • Contribute to manuscript drafting, particularly the Methods and Results sections, ensuring statistical accuracy and clarity.
  • Stay current with evolving methodologies in real-world evidence research, big data analytics, artificial intelligence applications, and ophthalmic outcomes research.
  • Support grant preparation by contributing to writing, statistical analysis plans and methodological sections.
