About The Position

The Research Associate 2, SOM contributes to the University’s research activities under the supervision of senior staff. Moreover, the incumbent understands, interprets, and complies with research policies and protocols. The Research Associate 2 supports the laboratory’s experimental, operational, and analytical activities within a neuroscience‑focused research team. The position requires proficiency in molecular biology, cell‑based methods, and data analysis to advance studies on cellular mechanisms, molecular interactions, and disease‑relevant pathways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.
  • Participates in the publication of significant research results.
  • Advances expertise through education, training, and research.
  • Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.
  • Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.
  • Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results.
  • Performs photography and dark room processing.
  • Participates in training sessions and workshops.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Perform specialized experiments involving cell culture, genetic material extraction, PCR, electrophoresis, protein assays, and immunodetection techniques such as Western Blot and ELISA.
  • Assist with the preparation, handling, and analysis of biological samples, including tissue cultures, cell lines, or molecular specimens.
  • Contribute to experimental workflows focused on molecular modeling, protein–protein interactions, and therapeutic mechanism studies relevant to the team’s research direction.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and follow established procedures to ensure accuracy, reproducibility, and adherence to experimental protocols.
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret experimental data using molecular modeling tools, bioinformatic databases, and standard laboratory software.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate laboratory records of experiments, results, and procedures to support internal reporting and research publications.
  • Assist with drafting sections of manuscripts, figures, or documentation for collaborative publications as appropriate.
  • Support the general organization of the laboratory, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and ordering supplies essential for daily research operations.
  • Ensure compliance with biosafety and institutional policies related to specimen handling, chemical use, and laboratory operations.
  • Participate in team meetings, workshops, and training sessions to enhance technical proficiency and contribute to a collaborative scientific environment.
