About The Position

The Department of Pathology is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 2 to work in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 2 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director. The department of Pathology is actively seeking a highly motivated, full-time Research Associate II. This lab is currently using adeno-associated virus (AAV) as a vector system for in vivo delivery of monoclonal antibodies with potent neutralizing activity as an approach to the prevention or cure of AIDS virus infection in non-human primates. This position is located in a research laboratory in the Converge Miami building. The research associate will work directly under the supervision of Research Assistant Professor Jose Martinez-Navio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Strong willingness to learn the techniques involved in antibody quantification by ELISA, cell culture, DNA cloning and expansion, processing of blood samples, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.
  • Participates in the publication of significant research results.
  • Advances expertise through education, training, and research.
  • Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.
  • Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.
  • Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results.
  • Performs photography and dark room processing.
  • Participates in training sessions and workshops.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Implements techniques established in the lab to detect and quantify AAV-delivered antibodies in serum, as well as potential immune responses to those antibodies.
  • Construct and purify new cloned DNAs for subsequent incorporation into recombinant AAV vectors.
  • Train in the performance of virus neutralization assays using HIV and SIV.
  • Maintain a proper lab notebook and be responsible for following proper lab safety and regulatory procedures.
  • Cooperate in maintaining the overall workflow of the team, housekeeping tasks, and participate in lab meetings.
  • Maintain a high level of current knowledge and laboratory skills in his/her discipline, and work on any additional tasks that may be assigned.
