About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Associate 2 to work at the UHealth Medical Campus in Miami, Fl. CORE JOB SUMMARY The Research Associate 2, SOM contributes to the University’s research activities under the supervision of senior staff. Moreover, the incumbent understands, interprets, and complies with research policies and protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Basic understanding of lab procedures, protocols, and equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizations skills.
  • Solid critical thinking/problem-solving skills.
  • Basic molecular biology and flow cytometry techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred and more than 3 working years of proven experience in similar position.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.
  • Participates in the publication of significant research results.
  • Advances expertise through education, training, and research.
  • Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.
  • Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.
  • Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results.
  • Performs photography and dark room processing.
  • Participates in training sessions and workshops.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Maintain the lab mouse colony through daily checks, setting up breeding pairs, genotyping, etc.
  • Breed and allocate experimental mice for ongoing studies in the lab.
  • Perform routine tests/experiments under the direction of the principal investigator or supervisor.
  • Perform research procedures on experimental samples as directed.
  • Record and check experiments/results for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform calculations and maintain appropriate log and notebooks.
  • Assist in care of lab equipment.
  • Attend courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques.
  • Record results, organize data, and maintain lab notebook in an organized manner.
