About The Position

Biochemistry & Molecular Biology has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate 1, SOM position. The incumbent supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field required

Responsibilities

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in the publication of significant results.
  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Carry out experimental work involving glioblastoma cell culture, molecular biology, and in vitro models, as well as in vivo studies.
  • Conduct nanoparticle synthesis and characterization
  • Contribute to experimental design and perform experiments related to tumor biology, drug resistance, and potential treatment targets.
  • Oversee the day-to-day running of a lab, including managing equipment and safety compliance as well as tracking supplies.
  • Manage junior lab members, training and directing them on experimental protocols. Statistical analyses of data, report and manuscript writing, and presenting to meetings.
  • Work with cross-disciplinary team members, such as principal investigators, clinicians, and external collaborators.
  • Support with grant reporting and documentation for the Casey DeSantis Florida Cancer Innovation Grant.
  • Attend lab meetings, journal clubs, and scientific conferences to be informed about the latest developments in glioblastoma research.
