About The Position

The Cardiovascular Center of Excellence in the School of Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA is seeking a highly organized, and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Research Associate 1, 2, or 3 (RA 1, 2, or 3). Functioning independently, the successful candidate will independently conduct laboratory experiments, which include molecular biology techniques, cell culture applications, and whole-body physiology in mice. There is a potential to develop bioinformatic/computation skills for -omics analysis, if desired. This position is in the Cardiovascular Center of Excellence, which is a collaborative and supportive research and training environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience for RA1.
  • Master's degree or higher for RA2 and RA3, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in laboratory techniques, particularly in molecular biology and cell culture.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with bioinformatics or computational skills for -omics analysis.
  • Previous experience in a research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments independently, including molecular biology techniques, cell culture applications, and whole-body physiology in mice.
  • Assist with and conduct laboratory experiments on research projects within well-defined guidelines (RA1).
  • Keep abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research (RA1).
  • Collect, prepare, and analyze specimens or animal subjects (RA1).
  • Evaluate results of processes and summarize data (RA1).
  • Maintain the efficient operation of the laboratory (RA2).
  • Assist Principal Investigator with summarization, analysis, and organization of data for publication (RA2).
  • Assist with the preparation of grant applications (RA2).
  • Assist and/or teach graduate students and others rotating through the lab (RA2).
  • Supervise and train junior research personnel (RA2).
  • Plan, organize, and perform the day-to-day operations of the research function (RA3).
  • Conduct laboratory experiments of research projects with final approval of the Principal Investigator (RA3).
  • Organize and manage three different research labs (RA3).
