About The Position

The Research Assistant performs skilled, administrative, and managerial support in research. This role involves planning and directing certain phases in a research project, specifically in the area of weed science. The candidate will assist with the design, planning, and coordination of experiments in support of various research projects including field, greenhouse, and laboratory studies. The position requires interaction and collaboration with other Texas A&M system scientists and involves travel to research stations with some occasional overnight stays.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will already have or in the process of completing a BS in weed science, agronomy, biology, physiology or a relevant field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.

Nice To Haves

  • An MS in weed science, agronomy, biology, physiology or a relevant field.
  • A pesticide applicator license.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse, laboratory and field research involving plant-herbicide interactions and herbicide resistance mechanisms.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the design, planning, and coordination of experiments in support of various research projects including field, greenhouse, and laboratory studies.
  • Manages and coordinates various research projects as needed.
  • Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research, and maintains detailed records of data.
  • Uses field, lab, or technical equipment to collect data, organize data sets, and prepare reports.
  • Evaluates and summarizes results.
  • Assists in maintaining financial accounts and other clerical tasks related to research projects.
  • Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research with various day to day activities.
  • Installs, operates, maintains, and/or repairs research equipment.
  • Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.
  • Assists in ordering supplies for office and research use.
  • Maintains and updates inventories.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
