About The Position

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) located in Princess Anne, Maryland invites applications for a Research Assistant position in the Department of Engineering. This is a full-time, on-site, grant-funded, contractual position with limited benefits. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of annual renewal based on performance and continued funding. The research is focused on peripheral nerve regeneration, and we are seeking a motivated candidate with a strong background in tissue and cellular biology and a commitment to scientific excellence.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering/ Biology/ Stem Cell Biology and Engineering/ Neuroscience/ Pharmaceutical Sciences/ Cancer Biology/ Molecular and Cell Biology/ Regenerative Medicine/ Tissue Engineering/ Developmental Biology/ Biomedical Sciences or related to tissue and cell study.
  • Expertise in neuron cell culture, biomolecular systems, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine.
  • Proficiency in RT-PCR, flow cytometry, atomic force microscopy, tissue culture, biological sample analysis, neuron cell culture and biomolecular analysis.
  • Ability to design and execute experiments, analyze data, write scientific manuscripts, prepare grant proposals, and present research findings at conferences.
  • Experience in supervision and mentorship of graduate/undergraduate students.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and generate innovative research ideas.
  • Support in lab operations management, maintain and operate laboratory equipment, ensure safety and ethical compliance, handle lab inventory and purchasing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct experimental studies involving neuron cell culture and study, biomolecular analysis; develop hypotheses, design protocols, and perform data analysis.
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, contribute to grant proposals, and present research findings at conferences.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; provide training in laboratory techniques, data analysis, and scientific writing.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., engineers, biologists); contribute innovative ideas to ongoing projects and initiate new research directions.
  • Assist the principal investigator in managing lab operations, maintaining equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and ethical standards, and overseeing purchasing and inventory.
  • Contribute to the development and validation of new biomedical tools, devices, or models.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
