Job Responsibilities: •Plan and execute yearly crossings in the greenhouse •Supervise, train, and monitor student workers •Prepare fields, maintain irrigation and drainage systems, plant bare root and potted plants, maintain fertility treatments to ensure optimal growth, prune plants, and maintain equipment used in the program •Execute pest, disease, and weed control and fertility program in the greenhouse, nursery, beds, and field plots. (requires a Pesticide applicator's License) •Propagate and grow experimental roses as needed •Measure/rate plants for various aspects of plant growth, quality, yield, or resistance to disease •Collect samples of fruit, leaves, stems, and flowers for characterization •Help with breeding programs by making hybridization, collecting pollen and seed, cleaning/stratifying seed, germination, and growth of seedlings •Summarize data collected •Write reports •Plan and coordinate research meetings •Manage online presence of the program •Maintain warehouse, headhouse, and field box for organization and cleanliness •Other duties as required Education and Experience: -Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: -Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment. Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position. All positions are security-sensitive.
