Position Information The Research Assistant performs skilled, administrative, and managerial support in research. Plans and directs certain phases in a research project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment.
  • Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Technology Deployment & Support: Install, calibrate, and maintain on-farm technologies such as field-based instruments, sensors, weather stations, and drone mapping equipment.
  • Data Analysis & Mapping: Analyze data from GPS, yield monitors, and soil sensors to create spatial-temporal maps, monitor crop health, and optimize management practices.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Repair or upgrade technical equipment, software, and sensors in the field to ensure operational readiness.
  • Training & Consultation: Train staff and graduate students on digital platforms and new technology, providing technical support.
  • Research & Optimization: Collaborate with research teams to conduct trials and collect data to improve crop yields and resource management.
  • Documentation: Maintain records of equipment performance, field data, and research results to prepare technical reports.
  • Proposal and Manuscript Development: Assist with the development, writing, and editing of proposals, grant applications, and manuscripts.
  • Assist with supervision of undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory: technical or field staff involved in research.
  • Coordinates the review of the work of research staff.
  • Establish, Install, maintain operate and/or repair research equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
