About The Position

The Research Assistant position supports efforts to develop novel gene and cell therapy based treatments for diseases of the liver and pancreas, as well as the inherited genetic disorder Fanconi anemia. Primary responsibilities include managing a transgenic rodent colony which includes animal handling related to drug administration, sample collection, surgery, and euthanasia. Additional responsibilities include PCR, genotyping, general molecular biology procedures such as RNA and DNA extraction, ELISA, preparing laboratory reagents, cell culturing and assisting researchers with experiments. Applicant will attend weekly lab meetings and present research upon request. Occasionally, rodent colony maintenance will require weekend work. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, driven, and ambitious individual to work in an engaging laboratory environment while receiving training and mentorship for career development or graduate school.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in relevant field (with major courses in the life sciences) OR Associate's AND 3 years of relevant experience OR 4 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Highly organized and excellent attention to detail.
  • Maintaining experimental records
  • Ability to take direction and work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to use e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet for data recording.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior research experience.
  • Experience working with live animals in a laboratory setting
  • Previous rodent colony management.
  • PCR.
  • OHSU rodent safety.
  • HIPAA training.
