About The Position

The Critical Care Services Research Support position provides hands-on experience supporting clinical research within the Emergency and Critical Care Units. This non-student hourly role assists clinical investigators with patient recruitment, data collection, sample processing, and study implementation in a fast-paced clinical environment. The Department of Clinical Sciences mission is to assure the health and productivity of animals to meet societal needs through high-quality educational programs for professional veterinary medical students, graduate veterinarians, and the public through a faculty and veterinary medical center of excellence, and to advance and disseminate comparative biomedical knowledge in an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Ability to communicate professionally with clients, clinicians, and research staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document clinical and research data.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, clinical environment with animals and clients.
  • Compliance with institutional policies, safety training, and research protocols is required.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and required trainings

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with clinical or laboratory research.
  • Familiarity with clinical data collection, electronic medical records, or research registries.
  • Experience with blood collection, sample handling, or point-of-care diagnostics.
  • Interest in clinical research and evidence-based veterinary medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, recruit, and enroll eligible veterinary patients into clinical trials and research studies, including obtaining informed client consent.
  • Accurately collect, document, and enter clinical patient data into research databases and veterinary registries in a timely manner.
  • Assist clinical and research personnel with study-related procedures, including blood collection, point-of-care diagnostics, and preparation of research interventions.
  • Process, store, and transport biological samples according to research-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs), including delivery to the Clinical Pathology laboratory.
  • Support overall study operations to ensure clinical trials are conducted in compliance with approved protocols, with opportunities for co-authorship on clinical studies as appropriate.
