About The Position

This part-time Research Assistant position is located in Mobile, Alabama. It is part of Department of Psychology and Human Development at Vanderbilt University and works closely with partners at the Mobile County Public School System and the University of South Alabama. The research assistant supports the work of the R01 grant "Preventing Youth Violence Through Building Equitable Communities", and will perform a range of specialized and unique duties including qualitative and quantitative data collection at participating schools, quality assurance with human subjects, and sorting of confidential data files. About the Work Unit: Peabody College is devoted to creating opportunity in an increasingly diverse society and to solving large societal problems. The Department of Psychology and Human Development at Vanderbilt University is a group of scholars who work to increase understanding of basic psychological functioning and neuropsychological development in various contexts. The department offers a doctoral degree in Psychological Sciences jointly with the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Science, with concentrations in clinical science, cognition in context, cognitive neuroscience, developmental science, neuroscience, and quantitative methods.

Requirements

  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is necessary.
  • Strong work ethic, high integrity, and excellent interpersonal skills is necessary.
  • Experience interacting with children, teachers, parents and the community is necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in schools preferred.
  • Transportation to participating schools is required; a preferred candidate will have a valid driver’s license and access to their own transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with administering youth surveys at participating schools in Mobile, AL.
  • Assist with filing and sorting documents, including confidential documents.
  • Observe classrooms at participating schools.
  • Complete rubrics for data collection in classroom observations.
  • Meet with teachers and school administrators.
  • Assist with data entry.
  • Assist with set-up and logistics for school trainings.
