The Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Virginia seeks a Laboratory Manager and scientist at the Research Assistant Professor level to help lead a translational blood cancer research program under the direction of Owen A. O'Connor, M.D., Ph.D. The candidate will join a highly collaborative research group to hasten the discovery and development of anti-cancer drugs, working closely with chemists, molecular biologists, immunologists and clinicians.

  • Lead a translational blood cancer research program.
  • Collaborate with chemists, molecular biologists, immunologists, and clinicians.
  • Develop and apply in vitro techniques including 2D and 3D cell systems.
  • Conduct molecular biology, gene editing, microscopy, -omics, and animal studies.
  • Utilize CRISPR/Cas9 mediated gene editing in drug development.
  • Guide laboratory development of methodologies in drug discovery.
  • Develop research grant proposals and pursue independent research funding.
  • Communicate effectively through scientific manuscripts and presentations.
  • PhD or MD/PhD or equivalent degree.
  • At least 4 years of post-doctoral research experience.
  • Experience in drug discovery and development.
  • Familiarity with translational cancer research.
  • Skilled in in vitro techniques, molecular biology, and gene editing.
  • Experience in the development of nanotechnologies applied to cancer research.
  • Experience in methodologies to study drug candidates in in vivo models.
