About The Position

The Department of Medical Education at the Quillen College of Medicine invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant Professor of Anatomy to begin their career at East Tennessee State University. This position supports the instructional and research missions of the College through teaching human gross anatomy with hands-on cadaver-based expertise, medical embryology, and other related disciplines to medical students and other health professional students. The successful candidate will contribute to anatomical sciences education scholarship, and anatomical research. We seek collaborative, learner-based educators who are enthusiastic about using active learning approaches to promote student engagement, responsibility for learning, and clinical readiness, consistent with Quillen College of Medicine standards. The successful candidate will also participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.

Requirements

  • Ability to teach human gross anatomy and embryology at the medical school level.
  • Ability to prepare cadavers through knowledgeable pro-section measures for anatomy-based teaching instruction.
  • Ability to teach Anatomy to other health professions students.
  • Expertise in advanced morphological imaging and analysis, including µCT imaging and geometric morphometrics.
  • Ability to integrate clinical correlations into anatomical education.
  • Ability to conduct scholarly research and publish peer-reviewed work.
  • Expertise in advanced morphological imaging and analysis.
  • Experience in the preparation and teaching cadaver-based human gross anatomy to medical students.
  • Experience in developing and providing embryology or developmental anatomy learning materials in a medical curriculum.
  • Expertise in advanced imaging techniques, including micro-computed tomography (µCT), 3D image reconstruction, and geometric morphometric analysis.
  • Expertise applying µCT imaging and geometric morphometric analysis specifically to vertebrate skeletal morphology or functional morphology.
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed scholarly productivity in anatomical sciences, morphology, or related biomedical research.
  • Strong communication, instructional, and mentoring skills.
  • Effective use of interpersonal and communication skills that incorporate tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong ability to cultivate collaborative relationships, solve problems, think creatively, and resolve conflicts.
  • Strong work ethic, and approachable leadership style, and a consistent focus on the college’s immediate and strategic goals.
  • Experience and record that reflects excellent organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Fluency with standard office software and email communication required. Knowledge of student and patient privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA).
  • Ph.D. in Anatomy, Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, or closely related discipline.
  • Research and scholarly productivity in anatomical sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Teach human gross anatomy to medical students using cadaver-based laboratory instruction and small-group facilitation.
  • Teach anatomy to other clinical health professions learners.
  • Teach embryology and developmental anatomy to medical students within an integrated organ-systems curriculum.
  • Integrate clinical correlations into anatomical instruction.
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Conduct scholarly activities in anatomical sciences, morphology, or medical education.
  • Apply advanced morphological imaging approaches, including micro-computed tomography (µCT), 3D reconstruction, and geometric morphometric analysis.
  • Mentor students and trainees in anatomical sciences or medical education research.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
